SOUTH KOREA – Lee Dae-hyeong hit a three-run, inside the park home run and Bong Jung-geun threw eight scoreless innings to lead the LG Twins to an 8-0 victory over the Doosan Bears. With the win, the Twins knocked the Bears out of the top spot in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO).
Jeong Seong-hoon and Kwon Yong-kwan paced the Twins offense with four hits apiece. Jeong belted a double and drove in two runs, while Kwon added two RBIs.
LG slugging import Roberto Petagine, who entered the week hitting a league-best .402, saw his batting average sink to .389 after an 0-for-4 effort at the plate.
Bong (4-7) struck out seven and limited Doosan to five hits to earn the win. Geum Min-cheol (1-1) had a forgettable outing and was charged with the loss.
LOTTE GIANTS 5, HANWHA EAGLES 0
Lotte starter Song Seung-joon tossed eight shutout innings and the Giants used a four-run eighth to beat Hanwha.
Jeong Bo-myeong’s RBI single in the fourth put Lotte ahead 1-0 and the score stayed unchanged until the eighth. Cho Seong-hwan drilled an RBI double to make the score 2-0 and Lee Dae-ho followed with a two-run shot.
Song (4-3) allowed eight hits and one walk in his best outing of the season, while Hanwha starter Ryu Hyeon-jin (7-3) surrendered 11 hits and four runs in 7 1/3 innings to get charged with the setback.
SK WYVERNS 7, SAMSUNG LIONS 5
SK chased Samsung starter Yoon Seong-hwan (3-2) in the opening frame and survived a string of horrible appearances by its bullpen to beat the Lions and move back atop the league standings.
Kim Kang-min finished 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the two-time reigning KBO champion, and backup catcher Jeong Sang-ho had two hits including a solo home run.
SK starter Goh Hyo-joon (5-4) fanned 10 and scattered three hits and one run in seven strong innings, while closer Jeong Dae-hyeon finished the game to record his seventh save of the year.
SEOUL HEROES 4, KIA TIGERS 2
The Seoul Heroes broke a 2-2 deadlock with a pair of late runs to dispose of the KIA Tigers, 4-2. Kang Gui-tae delivered the game-winning hit off KIA reliever Lim Joon-hyeok in the eighth to seal the victory.
Lee Bo-geun (4-2) and the Heroes bullpen managed to throw 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball. Shin Cheol-in retired the side in order in the ninth to register his second save.
Park Kyeong-tae (0-2) was saddled with the loss despite facing just one batter.
