PHILIPPINES – It will be a busy weekend for Baseball Philippines as the league plays the remainder of its Series V classification phase and the quarterfinal round starting Friday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
Cebu (4-4) seeks to keep its drive for the second outright semifinals seat going as it plays Dumaguete Unibikers at 7:30 am Friday.
A win will put the Dolphins to a clash with Manila for the right to join unbeaten Batangas Bulls into the Final Four.
However, a loss to the Unibikers will hand the second outright semis seat to the Sharks (6-3) with the Dolphins relegated to the quarterfinal stage starting Saturday.
The final ranking of the six competing teams will be known after Friday’s games with the third and fourth-ranked teams enjoying twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals against the No. 5 and 6.
The two outright semifinalists – Batangas and Cebu or Manila – will later gain the win-once incentive against the teams that will prevail in the quarterfinals.
The semis will be played next weekend (June 20 and 21) while the best-of-three finals will commence on June 27.
Meanwhile, Alabang (3-2) collides with Marikina (1-3) with its sights set on the second finals slot in the Junior Baseball Philippines at 11 a.m.
Cagayan has already qualified for the championship after winning all its five assignments.
