USA – Freshman Sean Gilmartin went the distance and Jason Stidham netted five RBIs to lead Florida State into the regional final.
Florida State (44-16) raced out to a 4-0 lead before Georgia senior Trevor Holder (7-5) found his groove in the middle innings, retiring 12 straight hitters during one stretch. Gilmartin (12-3) gave up just two runs and five hits.
The Seminoles will play the winner of Georgia (38-23) and Ohio State in the regional final.
OHIO STATE 6 , MARIST 4
Matt Streng knocked home the game-winning score and Jake Hale picked up his 17th save to help Big Ten champion Ohio State stave off elimination.
Michael Arp doubled and Streng’s sacrifice fly broke a 4-4 deadlock in the sixth inning. Streng also added an RBI single in the eighth to help the third-seeded Buckeyes (41-18) improve to 35-1 when leading headed into the eighth inning.
Marist (31-28) had pulled even in the top of the sixth on George Agostini’s second home run of the year.
