TAIWAN – The Uni-President Lions and the Brother Elephants battled to a 7-7 tie in a 4 1/2 hour Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) marathon ballgame on Sunday in front of 4,155 fans.

In a matchup that featured six home runs, the reigning league title-holders grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the first. But the Elephants pulled even in the third before the Lions scored six unanswered runs to hold a seemingly comfortable 7-1 lead heading into the seventh.

The Elephants added a score in the bottom of the seventh, and plated three more runs in the eighth to make things interesting. Two more runs in the final inning tied the score, and both squads failed to cross the plate in three extra innings.

Lions’ catcher Kao Chih-Kang was 5-for-5 with three doubles to set a new CPBL record with 12 two-base hits in one month. Yang Sung-Hsien also swung the bat well going 4-for-6 and with a homer and three RBIs, while Jose Castillo and Chen Lien-Hung each added a long ball for the Uni-President franchise.

Robert Bozied, Wang Chin-Yung, and Yang Tsung-Fan all homered for the Elephants while shortstop Wang Sheng-Wei had a run-scoring double to extend his itting streak to 10 games.

LA NEW ROUTS SINON
Tseng Hao-Chu drove in four runs and Hsu Wen-Hsiung tossed seven effective innings to help the La New Bears dispose of the Sinon Bulls 12-2 in front of 3,795 Taiwanese baseball fans this past Sunday evening.

Tseng doubled and cracked his third home run of the season as the Bears built a 4-0 lead after two at-bats. La New added a pair of runs in the fourth before blowing the game open with a four-run outburst an inning later.

Third baseman Shih Chih-Wei led the 14-hit attack with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate, while La New catcher Huang Hao-Jen had two hits and popped his first long ball of the year.

Hsu (4-3) allowed lone runs in the second and seventh frames to notch his fourth win of the year.
