TAIWAN – Chung Cheng-Yu hit for the cycle to help the La New Bears claim an 8-6 victory in 10 innings over the Sinon Bulls in action from the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) Friday night.

The Bulls raced out to a 5-0 lead off La New starter Wu Si-Yo who lasted only two innings. Lin Yi-Chuan extended his hitting streak to 16 games, and raised his batting average to .420 with a 3-for-5 effort that included a triple and two RBIs.

Chung went 4-for-5 with a single, double, triple, and home run to register the sixth cycle in the history of the CPBL. The versatile outfielder also swiped a base and tacked on four RBIs as the Bears overcame a five-run deficit to turn back the Bulls.

Chen Chin-Feng added his 12th homer for La New while Chiang Chih-Tsung connected for his first long ball of the season.

Keng Po-Hsuan (2-0) worked the final inning to earn his second win of the year, while Tsai Ming-Chin (1-2) was charged with the loss.

UNI-PRESIDENT LIONS SUBDUE BROTHER ELEPHANTS
Chen Lien-Hung hit a three-run homer in the opening frame and Chu Wei-Ming worked six effective innings to lead the Uni-President Lions past the Brother Elephants, 7-3.

In front of a boisterous crowd of 9,020 on hand to see former U.S. big league pitcher Tsao Chin-Hui, Chen’s early blast set the tone for the eigning league champion. The Lions chased Tsao with another score in the second to grab a 4-0 lead.

Yang Tsung-Fan put the Elephants on the scoreboard in the bottom of the same inning, and Liu Keng-Shin’s two-run hit in the fourth cut the lead to 4-3. But the Lions put the game out of reach with a three-run sixth highlighted by Kao Chih-Kang’s two-run double.

Chu (4-2) fanned three while allowing three runs on six hits to win for the fourth time.

Tsao (2-3) struggles continued with a woeful outing that included four runs in only 1 2-3 innings.
