SOUTH KOREA – The KIA Tigers and the LG Twins set a Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) record for the longest game in league history Thursday night with a 358 minutes marathon that ended in a 13-13 deadlock after 12 innings.
In a ballgame that featured a whopping 16 pitchers, KIA plated 13 scores over the first six innings and enjoyed a three-run cushion heading into the ninth. But the Twins rallied to tie the game off Tigers’ closer Yoon Seok-min.
LG right fielder Lee Jin-yeong opened the inning with a base hit up the middle, and moved up one base on Park Yong-taek’s infield single. Next, Lee Dae-hyeong laid down a bunt that Yoon fielded and threw wildly to third allowing a run to score, and putting the tying run on second base. Pinch hitter Lee Byeong-gyu followed with a line drive double to the gap in right center to cap the three-run rally.
The Twins loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning and appeared in good shape to pull out a roller coaster win. However, a pair of flyouts later the game was headed for “extra” innings.
LG – which was shutout over the final six innings – had one last opportunity to get into the win column in the 12th with the winning run on second and two outs. But Choi Hee-seop struck out swinging to end the game in a 13-13 tie.
SK WYVERNS TAME SAMSUNG LIONS
Ken Kadokura scattered a pair of runs over 6 2-3 innings and Choi Jeong connected for a mammoth home run to lead SK Wyverns to a 9-4 victory against the Samsung Lions.
SK roughed up Samsung starter Bae Yong-su for seven runs and 12 hits in just 4 2-3 innings. Choi swatted a fastball into the final row of seats in center field in the fifth to send Bae to an early shower.
Samsung right fielder Choi Hyeong-woo drilled a double, two home runs and tallied three RBIs.
