TAIWAN – Top Taiwanese prospects Lee-Wei Chiang, Chin-De Chang, Chi-Wei Lin, and Lee-Jen Chu highlight the 2009 Taiwan Youth National Team that will host the 14th World Youth Championships this coming August in Taichung.
Taichung City, which captured the title at the recently completed Kuo-Cheng Hsieh Cup (for 16 and under), had seven players named to the All-Star squad. Five players from second-place Kaohsiung County were selected to represent the national flag, while Taipei County and Pingtung County both had two players on the team.
Chiang is one of Taiwan’s top young pitching prospects. The 6′0″ right-hander will celebrate his 15th birthday on July 10.
Chang, who turned 16 last Sunday, and 15-year-old Lin are a pair of sweet-swinging, left-handed hitting infielders. Chu is a stocky 181 pound infielder who turned 15 in March.
