TAIWAN – Aaron Rakers continued his impressive early season start, and Chih-Sheng Lin popped his fifth home run as the La New Bears tallied three late scores to beat the Sinon Bulls 6-2 Wednesday in action from the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL).
Rakers (3-0) opened the contest with five shutout innings en route to his third win of the young season. The emerging staff ace – who racked up four strikeouts – scattered five hits and a pair of unearned roads over 6 2/3 innings.
Lin paced a La New offense that belted three long balls in front of 2,413 CPBL fans. The sweet-swinging shortstop drove in a pair of runs with a double and a homer, while Hao-Chu Tseng added a solo blast for the Bears. American first baseman Nate Gold sealed the victory with a three-run shot in the eighth to break open a one-run ballgame.
Sinon starter Wen-Ping Yu (1-1) surrendered a trio of runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings and was charged with the loss.
