USA – The Pensacola Pelicans announce today that they have signed Jody Finch to a 2009 contract. Finch, a 21 year old six-foot right handed pitcher, was a walk-up attendee of the Pelicans first open tryout on March 21.
“I was impressed with how he handled himself on the mound in a live game-like situation,” said Pelicans General Manager Talmadge Nunnari. “He threw 87-89 mph and has movement in and out. He worked fast and attacked the strike zone.”
Finch played one year of college ball at Florida Community College of Jacksonville in 2007.
Thirty-four players attended the tryout that put the players through various skill-related tests. A 60 yard dash, right field to third base throw, and ground balls at shortstop comprised the first half off the tryout. The second half featured pitchers throwing live batting practice.
The Pelicans will hold their second open tryout on April 25, 2009.
