USA – The El Paso Diablos will bring back former major leaguer Roberto Mejia to the Sun City. Born Roberto Antonio Mejia Diaz of the Dominican Republic, Mejia was signed by the Colorado Rockies in 1993.
“I’m very happy to be returning to El Paso and to be able to start the season with the Diablos. I really enjoyed spending last summer in El Paso and I look forward to being able to spend more time within the community,” said Mejia.
The 37-year-old infielder spent four seasons in the major league system, of which three were with the Colorado Rockies and one was spent with the St. Louis Cardinals. During his time with the Rockies, Mejia played alongside notable players such as the current New York Yankees Manager, Joe Girardi.
“Anytime your get someone with big league experience to play an important position like 3rd base, you instantly improve your team,” said Field Manager Butch Henry.
The Diablos open their season with a four day home stand against the Sioux City Explorers on Thursday, May 14. Season ticket packages are currently on sale at the Diablos Box Office. For more information please call Adriana Ruiz at 915-755-2000.
