USA – Long Island Ducks team officials today announced that they have come to terms with former Major League outfielder Preston Wilson for the 2009 season. The 34-year old is a veteran of 10 big league seasons with the New York Mets, Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies, Washington Nationals, Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals.
“We’re excited to welcome Preston to the Ducks family,” says Ducks general manager Michael Pfaff. “His experience and talent is a significant addition to our lineup.”
Wilson posted career-high power numbers with Colorado in 2003, slugging 36 home runs and driving in 141 runs en route to his first Major League All-Star selection. He had 121 RBI in 2000 with Florida, posting career-high numbers in stolen bases (36) and hits (160).
The powerful Wilson has amassed 189 career home runs, 211 doubles, 16 triples and 124 stolen bases in 1,108 Major Leagues contests. The veteran has hit 20 or more home runs in six of his big league seasons. He earned a World Series ring with the Cardinals in 2006, hitting eight home runs in just 111 at-bats with St. Louis after being signed in early August.
The Ducks 2009 10th Anniversary Season opens on Thursday, April 23, in Southern Maryland, with the home opener taking place at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, May 1, at Citibank Park. Season tickets, 10-pack mini plans and group outings are currently available by calling (631) 940-3825.
