McCoola will join Veteran Alex Llanos as the projected starters up the middle for the X’s when the team opens spring training camp on May 2nd.

“Knowing that I have Nick back will help our defense and it gives me some flexibility and I know his offensive production will increase this season,” comments field manager Les Lancaster. “I look forward to seeing him put it all together this season.”

The switch-hitting 26-year old Durango, Colorado native is entering his 3rd season in Sioux City. In his first two seasons, McCoola has accumulated a .275 batting average while collecting (169) hits, (27) Double’s, scoring (75) runs, collecting (64) RBI’s, while playing in 165 of the possible 192 games (all 96 games in 2008). In 2008, McCoola and OF Chad Gabriel tied for the team league in doubles with (18) apiece.

McCoola hit .306 in 298 at-bats during his rookie season in Sioux City and for his efforts he was named the starting shortstop for the North Division American Association All-Star Team that was held in Sioux Falls, SD.
