CANADA – The Victoria Seals inked 18 more to contracts. The signed players will be competing at spring
training for opening day roster positions.
Ten players were drafted out of the Golden Baseball League’s (GBL) Arizona Winter League including Victoria’s own Mason Scott. The 23-year-old plays college baseball and is looking for an opportunity to extend his career professionally.
Scott, who just returned from Arizona is looking forward to possibly playing in front of his hometown.
“I’ve spoken to friends and family and they are all really excited. I’m looking forward to the season and hopefully being a part of pro baseball back in Victoria.”
Manger Darrell Evans facilitated trades with Orange County, Long Beach (GBL), Sioux City, IA (American Association) and Winnipeg, MB (Northern League) to secure some experience balancing the draft picks, and is optimistic for the inaugural squad.
“The GBL doesn’t offer an expansion draft as some other leagues do so it allows each team the opportunity to sign and draft players. Victoria has the same opportunity as other teams to put together a successful roster.”
Coach Danny DiPace will join Evans in Nanaimo for the Island Tryout Camp on March 21st. Registration forms are still available at www.victoriaseals.ca.
The Seals start on the road in Edmonton on May 21, before the May 29th home opener at Royal Athletic Park vs. the Long Beach Armada.
