USA – The Southern Illinois Miners have signed right-handed pitcher Don Jordat.
Jordat, a native of Naples Fla., was taken by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 38th round of the 2004 draft out of Summit Christian High School in West Palm Beach. He joins the Miners after two seasons at Miami-Dade Community College where he went 10-2 with a 1.76 ERA. In 80 innings, he struck out 100 batters and allowed only 48 hits.
The last two seasons he has played his summer baseball for the Luray Wranglers of the famed Valley Baseball League. In two seasons for the Wranglers, he has posted a 3.57 ERA and struck out 64 batters over 41 innings. Opposing teams hit a paltry .165 against him.
“Don is a power arm that reaches the mid 90s,” Miners Manager Mike Pinto said. “He is a strikeout pitcher who has a full pitching arsenal. Scouts tell me he has a plus breaking pitch and change up. All the reports are very positive about Don as being what we are looking for in Southern Illinois. He is likely to be part of our rotation.”
The Miners will begin the 2009 season in Evansville on Friday, May 22. The home opener is scheduled for Friday, May 29 at 7:05 p.m.
