SPAIN – Motovalle scored three runs in the final inning and held on to defeat Dr. Computer Science Click
4-2 last weekend to capture the championship of the Canary Youth Baseball League.
Yanfrán Martín, who was selected as the league’s Most Valuable Player, opened the scoring thanks to a defensive error to put Motovalle ahead, 1-0. Then the large crowd assembled at the Burgado watched as the pitchers traded goose eggs until the last frame.
Antonio Hernández led off the seventh inning with an inside-the-park home run to increase the lead, and Motovalle added a pair of insurance runs to grab a 4-0 advantage. Dr. Computer Science Click fought back with two runs in the bottom of the inning but the regular season champs late rally came up short.
The top players at each position were Jose Manuel Rodriguez (C), Angel Piva (1B), Giovanni Binetti (2B), Yanfran Martin (SS), Carlos Arcay (3B), Javier González (LF), Deion Galván (CF), Héctor González (RF), and Ruben Rijkhof (P).
