FRANCE – The Rouen Huskies of the French Baseball League have signed former Los Angeles minor league pitcher Travis Stanton for the 2009 season.

The right-hander, who made five appearnces for the Florida Gators in 2001, played one season in the Angels organization in 2005. He struck out 43 in 50 2/3 innings and finished with a 4.62 ERA in 35 games.

The 27-year-old Florida product pitched the past few seasons for the Quebec Les Capitales of the independent Canadian American League (Can-Am). Stanton was 6-4 with a 3.90 ERA last year that included 79 strikeouts in 92 1/3 innings.

LA GUERCHE HAWKS ADD TWO YOUNG PLAYERS FOR 2009

The La Guerche Hawks have added a pair of up and coming players, infielder Sebastien Vezina and right-hander Fredrick Ouellette, for the 2009 French Baseball League season. Both players played for the Quebec De Diamants in 2008.

Vezina, 20, has a good bat as evident by his .316 batting average a year ago. He also tallied three home runs, 13 doubles and 37 RBIs last season while scoring 31 runs.

Ouellette posted a 4-1 mark with a pair of saves and a 1.60 ERA for two different squads last season. The 22-year-old also registered 31 strikeouts in 35 innings while issuing 15 walks.

MONTIGNY COUGARS ADD FORMER BROWN UNIVERSITY INFIELDER

The Montigny Cougars have signed infielder Jason Holowaty for their maiden season in the French Baseball League in 2009.

The 35-year-old Holowaty played for the London Mets last year and helped the club with the British championship. The former Brown University ballplayer, who also won a national title with the Bracknell Blazers, is a career .420 hitter in Britain’s National Baseball League.

Besides being a vice president of the European Baseball Coaches Association (EBCA), Holowaty is also the manager of game development for Major League Baseball International in Europe. He joins Nicolas Launay and former Rouen Huskie Jean-Baptiste Couton as the new faces in the Cougars’ dugout this season.
