ITALY – Italian club Reggio Emilia have announced the signing of former Baltimore Orioles farmhand Conrad
Orman for the 2009 season. The left-hander is the nephew of Dutch pitching legend Richard Orman who holds the Dutch Major League all-time record for most wins by a southpaw.
The 21-year-old Aruban native signed with the Orioles in 2004 and pitched two seasons in the Venezuelan Summer League. In 2007, he went 8-2 with a 4.97 ERA in the Gulf Coast League before struggling the following season with the Bluefield Orioles (Appalachian League) and getting released.
SARLOUIS HORNETS SIGN GEORGIA STATE PITCHER
The Saarlouis Hornets of the German Baseball League have announced the signing of former Georgia State player Kenny Camp. The pitcher, who can also play in the outfield, is scheduled to arrive in Germany on March 13.
Camp posted a 3-1 record last season for the Panthers in 13 outings which included nine starts. He finished the year with 43 strikeouts in 49 2/3 innings and a 5.25 ERA.
HIRO SAKANASHI TAKES OVER AS SUPERFUND WANDERERS COACH
The Superfund Wanderers of the Austrian Baseball League have announced that top hitter Hiro Sakanashi will replace long-time skipper Nick DeForest this upcoming season. DeForest, who has been at the helm of the Vienna-based club since 2000, will remain with the team as a player.
Sakanashi hit .374 and scored 40 runs in his second season with the Wanderers a year ago.
Clemens Cichocki, the 2007 ABL Most Valuable Player, will also return to the Wanderers this season after suiting up for the Haar Disciples in the German League last year.
