SPAIN – Pablo Pérez pitched four strong innings, and both Aaron León and Ángel Piva connected for key RBI
hits, to lead Dr. Click to an exciting 4-3 win over Motovalle in action from the Canary Youth League this past weekend. These same two teams will clash for the league title next weekend.
Motovalle combined two hits with three walks, and a wild pitch, to plate three runs in the opening frame for a quick 3-0 lead. But Dr. Click answered back in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs on three hits to cut the lead to a lone run, 3-2.
Pérez reached on a walk in the second and scored on a clutch RBI double off the bat of León to tie the score at 3-all. Both teams failed to muster any offense the next two innings to set the stage for a climatic final inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, Diego Piva worked the opposing pitcher for a walk, stole second base, and raced to third base
on the same play when the throw from the catcher rolled into center field. Ángel Piva calmly delivered the game-winning hit to give Dr. Click a hard-fought 4-3 victory.
Dr. Click improved to 5-1 to top the elimination round while Motovalle finished second with a 3-3 record.
The championship will be decided with a seven-inning game on March 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Burgado.
Dr. Click will be without one of its leading hitters, Ángel Piva, who has an injured right wrist and will miss the most important game of the season. The first baseman and number three hitter batted .308 during the elimination round.
Roberto Carrillo, head coach of Dr. Click, will be shooting for his second league championship in three finals appearances while Motovalle skipper Francisco González will be making his first trip to the title game.
