SPAIN – Yanfran Martín stroked a pair of doubles and Motovalle claimed a wild 9-8 win over Canaritos last
weekend in youth league baseball action from Spain.
Canaritos hit paydirt in the opening frame to grab an early 1-0 lead. Hard-hitting Cesar Álvarado reached second on a double, stole third base, and scored on an errant throw by the catcher. However, it was a short-lived advantage as Motovalle answered back in rapid-like fashion.
Deion Galván and Gary Peña both walked to start the rally before Martin cleared the bases with his first two-bagger of the day to jump start a three-run inning for Motovalle.
Martin put his team ahead 4-1 with his second run-scoring double of the game an inning later before Canaritos mounted a furious comeback in the third.
Carlos Arcay’s RBI double and Giannini Binetti’s home run were the key hits for Canaritos which scored three
runs to knot the score at 4-all.
Motovalle manufactured two runs on just a lone hit in the fourth to regain the lead, 6-4. But Canaritos responded with another trio of scores to go back on top, 7-6.
Canaritos added a run in the sixth but it would prove to not be enough as Motovalle rallied for three more runs to escape with an exciting 9-8 victory.
Martin, who was also the winning pitcher, enjoyed a 2-for-4 day at the plate with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Arcay was the main man for Canaritos finishing with a 2-for-3 effort that included a double, two runs scored, and an RBI.
