PHILIPPINES – Adamson got a clutch grand slam from Marvin Malig to stun the University of Santo Tomas,
5-4, on Sunday in action from the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) baseball league.
The Falcons trailed 4-1 heading into the sixth before Malig connected on a full count pitch off Santo Tomas rookie pitcher Glen Tuazon to complete the shocking comeback victory at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Field. The blast was the first grand slam this season in the UAAP baseball tournament
“Malig has regained his old self. I took him in four years ago but he got injured middle of his first year and he somewhat lost his confidence. But he is a different player this season,” Adamson coach Orlando Binarao told GMANews.TV after the contest.
The win was the eighth straight for Adamson and moved the Falcons to within two games from finishing the elimination-round unbeaten. The league-leaders final two assignments are against the University of the Philippines and Ateneo.
“I believe we can sweep the elimination. We just have to play consistent and Malig to keep his good form,” added Binarao.
Santo Tomas dropped its fifth decision in eight outings.
Romeo Jazmin came out of the bullpen to toss eight innings in relief to limit the Tigers to a lone run on three hits.
In other UAAP action on Sunday, Ateneo rallied to beat La Salle, 9-8, while the University of the Philippines downed National University, 13-8.
