PHILIPPINES – The Adamson Falcons continued their quest to repeat as University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) baseball champions with an 8-0 win over the University of Santo Tomas on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
2008 UAAP Most Valuable Player, Romeo Jasmin, struck out 13 in a five-hit complete game gem to help the defending champions remain unbeaten with a 5-0 record.
“We played very well in the first round but I hope the players will not be over confident heading into the second round. I believe we are capable of retaining the title and we will go all out for another sweep to avoid any complication in our drive,” Adamson coach Orlando Binarao told GMANews.TV.
Adamson’ batters feasted on Santo Tomas pitchers Glen Tuazon and Gerald Mitra for 15 hits. Welvin Vispo enjoyed a 3-for-4 day at the plate with three RBIs while Marvin Malig added a sixth-inning solo home run and Richard Siacor drove in two runs for the Falcons.
Tuazon was charged with the setback after surrendering seven runs on 11 hits in just four innings. loss after allowing 11 hits in four innings.
University of Philippines 4, La Salle 1
In other UAAP baseball action last Sunday, Vladimir Eguia struck out eight as the University of the Philippines improved to 3-2 with a 4-1 victory over the La Salle Green Archers to remain in second place.
Eguia limited the Green Archers to a lone run on three hits to pick up the win while the Maroons’ offense tagged La Salle starter Jeff Ardio for 11 hits.
National University 12, Ateneo 9
In the final contest, National University defeated the Ateneo Blue Eagles in a slugfest, 12-9, to gain their second victory in five outings.
