DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – The Licey Tigers rolled to their third straight win in the Dominican Baseball League
championship series last night after the San Francisco Gigantes refused to play the game. The Gigantes were protesting the suspension of Felix Martinez who was barred from finals competition after losing his cool during Game Two this past Wednesday night.
Trailing two games to none in the best-of-seven series, Gigantes walked off the field at Quisqueya Stadium in support of Martinez who attempted to harm the chief umpire after being ejected. However, fears that the Gigantes would not continue to play the championship series were premature after the Gigantes agreed to finish the series.
Game Four of the finals scheduled today will also be contested at Quisqueya Stadium and not in San Francisco where ugly confrontations between the visiting Licey squad and hometwon fans occurred this season.
