USA – The University of Texas has suspended Longhorns baseball coach Augie Garrido after he was
arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Austin police arrested the Longhorns skipper, the NCAA’s career leader with 1,668 wins, near downtown Austin early Sunday morning.
Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds said in a statement that Garrido told him that he’s “devastated and realizes he’s made a serious mistake.” Dodds said that Garrido will be suspended with pay until school officials can gather more information regarding the arrest.
Garrido has coached five national champions, and was the first coach to win NCAA World Series titles with two different schools.
