BELGIUM – The Namur Angels have signed a pair of New York natives, Zachary Potter and Henry Perkins, for the upcoming 2009 Belgium League season.
Potter, a right-hander, went 7-1 record in nine starts including seven complete games while compiling a 2.30 ERA at the Division III level. The Pine Plains product limited opposing hitters to a meager .203 batting mark and fanned 87 in 66 2/3 innings of work.
Perkins batted a team-high .363 for Columbia University last season while collecting 16 doubles, six triples, three home runs, 34 RBIs and 41 runs scored. A 2008 All-Ivy League selection at second base, the former three-sport prep standout from Skaneateles posted a 1.91 ERA over 28 1/3 innings on the mound with 25 strikeouts in seven appearances.
The Opening Day for the 2009 Belgium League season will be on Saturday, April 18. Teams will play a 28-game regular season schedule with the top four clubs qualifying for a 12-game round robin post-season format. The top two teams in the playoff round will meet for the league title in the Belgium Series.
Namur will open their exhibition card on March 14 against Louvain La Neuve before matching up against the reigning league champions, Port Of Antwerp Greys, the following day.
