Former Major Leaguer Phil Nevin To Manage Orange County Flyers

USA - The 2008 Golden Baseball League Champion Orange County Flyers have named former Cal State Fullerton and Major League Star Phil Nevin as their new manager for the 2009 season.
Nevin, 37, replaces Hall of Famer Gary Carter as the new skipper of the Flyers. Carter, the 2008 GBL
Manager of the Year, accepted a similar managerial position with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic Coast League.
“Phil brings a true Orange County flavor to the Flyers as a graduate of El Dorado High School and Cal State Fullerton where he won the coveted Golden Spikes Award in 1992 as the Top Collegiate Player in America,”said Flyers President/GM Alan Mintz.
Nevin begins his duties immediately by putting together a Coaching Staff and getting ready for Team Tryouts which will be held in February. He will also be involved with the Promotions and Community Relations to help make people more aware of the 2008 Champion OC Flyers and nevin angelsthe excitement and affordable family entertainment it provides.
“I am excited to be coming home, managing a team at my alma mater Cal State Fullerton, and having the opportunity to guide the 2009 Flyers to a second straight GBL Championship”, said Nevin. “The Flyers have built a winning tradition and my goal is for them to be competitive and hopefully repeat as Champions.”
He played for the Minnesota Twins (2006), Chicago Cubs (2006), Texas Rangers (2005-2006) San Diego Padres (1999-2005), Anaheim Angels (1998), Detroit Tigers (1995-97), and the Houston Astros (1995).
