SOUTH KOREA – Prematurely ending what has been a tumultuous term at the top, Shin Sang-woo stepped
down yesterday as the commissioner of the Korea Baseball Organization.
Shin announced his resignation in a meeting with the KBO teams’ presidents in a Seoul hotel.
“I asked the team presidents to help seek my successor,” Shin said. “Until then, our secretary general Ha Il-sung will be the interim commissioner.”
Shin, a former lawmaker, was named the commissioner on Jan. 16, 2006, and his term was to end in March next year. The 71-year-old had hinted at an early resignation over the course of this offseason and said he wanted to wait until after the Golden Glove Awards presentation, which took place last Thursday.
