USA – The Rockford RiverHawks announced Friday that they have signed rookie catcher Craig Cant.

Cant hit .295 with a home run and 20 RBI in 38 games last season, his senior year at NAIA King College in Bristol, Tenn. Cant committed just three errors and had a .987 fielding percentage.

“He had real good numbers,” RiverHawks director of baseball operations Dave Ciarrachi said.

Cant, a resident of Tennyson, New South Wales, continues the RiverHawks tradition of an Australian presence on the roster over the previous six seasons.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season in 2009. The RiverHawks will begin their eighth season at 7:05 p.m. May 21 at Windy City and host the 2009 Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on July 15.
