USA – After more than 30 years of coaching one of Michigan’s most successful baseball programs, Jenison’s Gary Cook has decided to retire as the Wildcats’ head coach.
Cook, the Grand Rapids Area’s all-time winningest high school baseball coach, built the Jenison program
into a powerhouse. He guided the ‘Cats to 18 O-K Red conference championships and six MHSAA Final Four appearances, finishing as the state runner-up finishes in Class A in 1985 and in Division 1 in 2004.
Cook said that having had a great season (the team went 31-5) in 2008, wanting to spend more time with his grandchildren and having minor health issues all weighed into his decision to hang up the cleats after 31 years at the helm.
