2008 Pennsylvania All-State Baseball Teams

USA – The Pennsylvania High School Baseball Coaches Association (PHSBCA) 2008 All-State baseball teams were broken into two groups – Large School (Class AAAA and Class AAA) and Small School (Class AA and Class A). Also, each group was divided by position, including designated hitter.

Hempfield (Lancaster) and Canon-McMillan each had two players on the Large School Division team, and Schuylkill Haven had two players on the Small School Division team.

2008 Large School All-State Team

Pitchers

Ricky Ott – Senior – Shippensburg High School
Went 8-0 with a 0.78 ERA while collecting 100 strikeouts in 63 innings to earn Mid-Penn Colonial Conference MVP and Chambersburg Public Opinion Player of the Year honors.

Brett Houseal – Junior – Hempfield (Lancaster)
Posted a 10-3 record with a 1.22 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 81 innings on the hill. Also hit .369 with 22 RBIs at the plate.

Catchers

Joe Maloney – Senior – Sun Valley
A first-team All-Delaware County and first-team All-Delaware Valley pick, Maloney went 22-for-59 for a .373 batting average with a pair of homers, 18 RBIs and 19 stolen bases.

Jon Steele – Senior – Williamsport
Batted .468 with five home runs and 23 RBIS and four stolen bases.

First Base

Ryan Geffert – Senior – Wyoming Valley West
The Wyoming Valley Conference MVP hit .547 with 10 home runs, 34 runs scored and 42 RBIs.

Second Base

Austin Wulf – Junior – Blackhawk
A Beaver County Times All-Star and an All-Section 1 Class AAA selection, Wulf batted .533 with two home runs, 14 doubles, 33 runs scored and 23 RBIs.

Shortstop

Matt Pierpont – Junior – Canon-McMillan
Led his team to the state title with a .471 batting average with three home runs, 10 doubles, 28 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

Third Base

Jarrod Kramer – Senior – Blue Mountain
A first-team All-ABCA Division I player and a first team All-Area player, Kramer batted .413 with three home runs, four doubles, 24 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

Outfielders

Chris Dittmar – Senior – Canon-McMillan
A first-team all-section member, Dittmer helped lead the Big Macs to the PIAA Class AAAA title with a .432 batting mark, six home runs, 26 RBIS and 33 runs scored.

Jon Moser – Senior – Hempfield (Lancaster)
Batted .434 with eight home runs, 25 runs scored and 30 RBIs to win team MVP honors.

Rocco DelPriore – Junior – Southern Lehigh
A first-team Allentown Morning Call All-Area team member and a first-team All-Colonial League choice, DelPriore Hit .440 with four home runs, nine doubles, 22 RBIs, 32 runs scored and 22 stolen bases.

Designated Hitter

Tyler Wingard – Sophomore – Punxsutawney
Just a sophomore, Wingard batted .406 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs to lead his school to its fifth straight District 9 Class AAA title.
