DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – Victor Diaz, Matt Carson and Chris Giménez all homered as Aguilas Cibaeñas pounded Leones del Escogido 15-6 on Sunday in Dominican Winter League action.
Carson connected for a three-run shot in the second followed by Giminez, who cracked a solo blast in the third. Diaz smacked a three-run homer the next inning and drove home five RBIs in the game to help Aguilas capture their third win of the young season.
Adam Miller (1-1) worked five innings allowing four runs in the fifth to earn the win. The loss was charged to Julio Mateo (0-1) who was torched for seven runs in 2 1/3 innings.
Tigres 11, Azucareros 3
Jake Fox tallied four RBIs and Jorge Sosa turned in another solid outing on the mound to lead the Licey past Azucareros.
Sosa (2-0) worked five effective innings allowing just two runs to nail down his second win while Felix Heredia (0-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs in 3 2/3 innings.
Cuban slugger Amaury Cazaña finished with three RBIs and Erick Aybar went 3-for-5 for Licey which improved to 7-2 on the season.
Gigantes 7, Estrellas 3
Sean Rodríguez popped two home runs and Juan Francisco added a three-run blast to help the Gigantes topple Estrellas.
The Gigantes took command early scoring four runs in the opening frame to move within a half game of the top spot. Rodriguez hit a pair of solo shots to help make a winner out of reliever Francisco Cruceta.
Cruceta (2-0) worked two scoreless innings out of the bullpen and fanned three to secure the victory. Estrellas starter Luis Muñoz (0-1) suffered the setback after surrendering five runs in only two innings on the hill.
