DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – White Sox prospect Ricardo Nanita went 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored as the Azucareros used a five-run fourth inning to top the Licey Tigres, 8-5.
Marlins farmhand Manuel Mayorson added two hits, including a double, and scored twice for the Azucareros, who prevailed despite two homers and three RBIs by former Major Leaguer Timo Perez.
Escogido 5, Aguilas 3
DH Juan Melo was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in the fourth inning and Anthony Recker (Athletics) went 1-for-5 with a two-run double to lead Escogido to a 5-3 win over Aguilas in 11 innings Thursday night.
Six Leones pitchers limited the Cibaenas to three runs — two earned — on just four hits and three walks. Maximo De La Rosa went two innings in relief for his first win and Bartolome Fortunato collected his first save.
The Aguilas used seven pitchers, with Sergio Severino (Astros) taking the loss, his first, after allowing one run while retiring two.
Gigantes 7, Estrellas 1
The Gigantes got hits from all but one starter and cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Estrellas on Thursday night. Brad Nelson (Brewers) was 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and two runs, while Ramon Santiago (Tigers) was 1-for-3 with a two-run double to lead Cibao.
Erick Almonte (Tigers) went 3-for-5 and scored, and Lucas Montero (Indians) was 2-for 3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Fernando Tatis (Mets) homered to provide the only offense for Oriente.
Beltran Perez (Nationals) went two innings in relief of starter Franklin Nunez to earn his first win. Evan MacLane (Diamondbacks) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk in 2 1/3 innings to take the loss, his first, for the Estrellas.
