2008 Baseball Americas Cup Awards

VENEZUELA - Puerto Rico’s Carlos Rivera was chosen as the Most Valuable Player at the 2008 Baseball Americas Cup. The first baseman batted .375 (12-for-32) with two doubles, three homers, 10 RBIs and seven runs scored to help Puerto Rico capture the championship at the IBAF Baseball World Cup qualifying tournament.

Dutch Antilles outfilder Ardley Jansen slugged four home runs to earn Home Run King honors while Mexican third baseman Agustin Murillo drove home the Most RBIs with 11. Puerto Rico’s Gabriel Martinez and Jose Hernandez tied for Most Runs Scored with nine runs apiece.

Aruba’s Julio Hernandez and Cristian Presichi of Mexico both swiped three bases to lead the tournament, and Dutch Antilles pitcher Johannes Gregorius, Jr. was the ERA Leader (0.00) as well as having the Best Record (2-0).
