HAWAII – Waikiki received at least one base hit from each hitter in its lineup, and used a four-run fourth inning to beat North Shore, 6-4, on Monday at Waipahu’s Hans L’Orange Park.
Cincinnati’s Todd Frazier led the way for the BeachBoys with two hits, and left fielder Roger Kieschnick hit his second home run of the season on a solo shot in the second inning. Yonder Alonso, the seventh overall pick in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft by Cincinnati, made his debut for Waikiki, and went 1-4 with a run scored.
Waikiki (3-5) starter Waldis Joaquin improved to 1-1 after surrendering a run on four hits through 3 1/3 innings. Jordan Pratt earned the save after holding the Honu scoreless in the ninth inning.
North Shore (2-5-1) received seven hits from three players led by shortstop Kyle Martin who finished 3-4 with two doubles. Teammates Kurt Mertins and Matt McBride each chipped in two hits.
Honu starter Jun Hyeok Heo fell to 0-1 after surrendering five runs on six hits and two walks.
Both squads have scheduled days off on Monday, and return to action Tuesday.
