SPAIN – El Llano’s Roberto Noriega was named the Most Valuable Player last weekend at the Copa Del Rey tournament while teammate Jose Morales, who led all hitters with a .625 batting average, won the Best Batter Award.
El Llano Baseball Club captured the Copa Del Rey championship, Spain’s Baseball Cup, with an exciting 7-6 comeback victory over CB Viladecans on Sunday. The win marked the first time in club history that El Llano captured the Copa Del Rey title while former Spanish power, CB Viladecans, was stopped in their bid to win an unprecedented 20th tournament championship.
Morales went 5-for-8 with a double, three home runs and eight RBIs in two games, and Noriega hit at a .571 clip while scoring four runs. Juan Alonso batted .375 followed by Marcos Trillo who finished the tourney with a .286 batting average.
Team members for El Llano included Noriega, Morales, Alonso, Trillo, Carlos Fente, Emilio Perez, Gabriel Sanso, Pedro Mendez, Javier Flores and Ruben Fente.
