Matt Brown Earns PCL Most Valuable Player

USA - The Pacific Coast League today announced its 2008 All-PCL Team featuring Salt Lake Bees and 2008 USA Baseball Olympian Matt Brown, who was named the league’s Most Valuable Player.

Brown is currently eighth in the league in batting average at .326 with 32 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, 67 RBI and four stolen bases in 93 games for the Bees in 2008.

The 25-year-old also earned PCL Batter of the Week on April 14, Angels’ Minor League Player of the Month in April, and was selected to participate in the 2008 Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby. In five games with the Angels this season, Brown owns a 0.77 batting average with one double and two RBI. The Bellevue, Wash. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 10th round of the 2001 draft.

Another Olympian, Las Vegas 51s Terry Tiffee, also made the PCL All-Star squad.

Outfielder- Nelson Cruz (Oklahoma Redhawks)

Outfielder- Nick Stavinoha (Memphis Redbirds)

Outfielder- Terry Tiffee (Las Vegas 51s)

Designated Hitter- Dallas McPherson (Albuquerque Isotopes)

Right-Hand Pitcher- Shane Loux (Salt Lake Bees)

Left-Hand Pitcher- Gio Gonzalez (Sacramento River Cats)

Relief Pitcher- Jason Bulger (Salt Lake Bees)
