JAPAN - The top of the order for South Korea scored 11 runs and the Koreans capitalized on 11 walks to beat Hong Kong 15-5 to earn their first win at the Women’s World Cup.

South Korea enjoyed maximum production from its first four hitters, Dae Lee Kwak (four runs), Hye Jin Seo (three runs), Kyong Hi Yu (three RBIs) and Zong Yan Wang (three runs) to improve to 1-1 at the tournament. First baseman Eun Jung Hong also turned in a stellar outing going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four stolen bases.

Yu Young Lee scattered three runs on one hit over three innings before giving way to Sujin Kim (1-0) who picked up the win after allowing a pair of runs in two innings on the mound. Yee Wan Lam (0-1) suffered the setback for Hong Kong.

Japan 12, Canada 2

Tomomi Nishi, Yukiko Kon and Nodoka Harada all had big games at the plate to lead Japan to a 12-2 win over Canada to stay perfect in Pool B at the Women’s World Cup on Monday.

Nishi went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs while Kon had a pair of hits - including a triple - and three RBIs. Harada went 3-for-4 with two doubles for the hosts who are on a collision course with Team USA for the gold medals.

Kana Sakamoto (1-0) threw five solid innings surrendering only two runs on four hits. Kate Psota (0-1) yielded nine runs in 4 1/3 innings and was tagged with the loss.

Australia 12, Taiwan 0

Simon Wearne pitched a three-hit shutout and Australia remained undefeated at the Women’s World Cup with a 12-0 win over Taiwan on Monday.

Wearne (1-0) walked one and struck out four in six innings to help the Aussies stay even with Team USA in Pool A. Hsjao-Chien Wang (0-1) was charged with the loss as Taiwan (0-2) dropped their second game of the tournament.

Christina Kreppold, Angela Catford, Katie Gaynor and Kelly Manzie paced Australia with four hits apiece. Gaynor clubbed two doubles while driving home a pair of RBIs.
