Karim Garcia Leads Korean League All-Star Vote

SOUTH KOREA - They like him…they really like him.

Mexican-born outfielder Karim Garcia continues to lead the All-Star fan balloting with 639,075 votes. If theLotte Giants Outfielder Karim Garcia Lotte Giants’ outfielder holds onto the lead, the former Major Leaguer will be the first foreign player in Korea Baseball Organization history to capture the most votes.

Garcia leads teammate Lee Dae-ho (600,398) and KIA Tigers star Lee Jong-bum (591,021) for the most number of votes. The 33-year-old left-handed hitter slugger was hitting .250 with 21 home runs and 64 RBIs in 81 games played as of July 14.

Korean All-Star players are chosen by popular vote. The All-Star game is a single match between the East Division (Lotte Giants, Doosan Bears, Samsung Lions and SK Wyverns) and the West Division (Kia Tigers, Hanwha Eagles, LG Twins and Woori Heroes).

Garcia played in 488 Major League games over a 10-year career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Baltimore Orioles and New York Mets. He has a career .241 batting average with 66 home runs and 212 RBI’s.

The 2008 Samsung PAVV All-Star game will be played on Aug. 3 in the SK Wyverns’ Munhak Baseball Stadium in Incheon.
