TAIWAN - dmedia T-Rex outfielder Chen Yuan-jia blasted a three-run homer in an eight-run, sixth-inning eruption to lead the Red Team to a 10-6 win over the White Team at the Chinese Professional BaseballYuan-Chia Chen - All-Star Game MVP League (CPBL) All-Star Game Sunday night.

The high-scoring affair featured 24 hits, including five home runs, and 16 runs to the delight of more than 14,000 fans in Taichung City’s Intercontinental Stadium.

Yu-Cheng Liao started for the Red Team and worked one inning allowing a hit and a walk with one strikeout. Wei-Lun Pan got the starting nod for the White Team and also recorded one scoreless inning. Yu-Chieh Shen (1-0) pitched two innings and was credited with the win while Feng-Hua Lee (0-1) was pinned with loss.

Chen, who went 1-for-2, was selected the MVP while second baseman Hung-Sen Chu (3-for-3), third baseman Wilton Veras (2-for-5) and shortstop Ming-Jen Kuo (2-for-2) all came off the bench for the Red Team to enjoy a productive night at the plate.

The White Team belted three long balls as Chang Tai-Shan ripped a solo homer in the third while Fu-Hao Liu and Tilson Brito added a two-run shot and a solo blast, respectively.

Brito, a Dominican slugger, uncorked 27 homers in the final round of the Home Run Derby to defeat Hsieh Jia-hsien in the
All-Star Weekend contest. A former U.S. Major Leaguer with the Toronto Blue Jays, Brito set several Taiwan Home Run Derby records including the highest total (46) and most consecutive homers (12).

The CPBL All-Star Game pits the Red Team (Taipei and Northern Taiwan based ballclubs: Brother Elephants, Chinatrust Whales, and Dmedia T-Rex) against the White Team (Central and Southern Taiwan based ballclubs: Sinon Bulls, Uni-President Lions, and La New Bears).

Taiwan’s Olympic baseball stars like Chang, Pan Wei-lun, Ni Fu-Deh and Hsu Wen Hsiung were also featured prominently in the annual midsummer classic.

Other players on the Olympic national team 24-man roster who started in the All-Star Game Sunday night included position players Peng Chien-Ming, Pan Wu-Hsiung, Lin Chi-Sheng, Chang Chien-Ming and catcher Yeh Chun-Chang.

Taiwan’s Olympic baseball squad will prepare for the Beijing Games by playing a series of exhibition matches against CPBL teams in early August.
