SWEDEN - Michael Andersson went the distance and Peter Elfwing had three hits as the Sundbyberg Heat captured a 6-5 win over the Leksand Lumberjacks on Saturday. The Heat completed the sweep with a 7-6 triumph in the second contest.
Leksand grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the first before Sundbyberg answered back with two runs in the second to take a lead it would never relinquish. The Heat added a pair of insurance runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to increase their lead to 6-1 before the Lumberjacks rallied for three sixth-inning runs. Leksand added a run in the eighth to draw even closer but fell short in their comeback bid.
Elfwing went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI to pace the Heat while Leksand’s Håkan Börjes smacked three hits and knocked in four RBI’s.
Andersson (4-3) scattered five run and nine hits while striking out nine to pick up his fourth win of the season. Leksand starter Per Sjörs (3-4) also tossed a complete game but was tagged with the loss.
The two wins put Sundbyberg above the .500 mark with a 9-8 card while Leksand fell to 8-8.
In other Swedish League action this past weekend, Tranås swept league-leading Stockholm (10-9 and 15-8) in a pair of high-scoring affairs. Tranås raised its record to 10-9 while Stockholm dropped to 13-4.
