
Marlins Puerto Cruz and Sant Boi locked horns for supremacy in the Spanish League on Saturday in two thrilling low-scoring affairs from Spain.
The two talented squads needed extra-innings in the first game of a twinbill after battling to a 0-0 draw for nine innings. Sant Boi scored twice in the 11th and then held on for a 2-1 win to temporarily claim sole possession of the top spot.
The second game featured another pitching duel pitting Sant Boi’s Yoel Hernandez against the Marlins Ivan Granados. The reigning champions from Tenerife plated a run in the first and moved back atop the standings with a 1-0 victory.
The Marlins improved to 18-4 on the season with Sant Boi close behind with a 19-5 card.
Another Spanish heavyweight, FC Barcelona, disposed of the winless Astros in a pair of lopsided contests. The two-time defending CEB Cup Champions collected 30 hits on Saturday in easy 17-2 and 14-0 wins to improve to 15-5 on the year.
El Llano (16-8) continued their successful season with two narrow wins over a tough Navarra squad. El Llano
raced out to a 4-0 lead in Game 1 and held on for a 4-2 win before breaking a 6-all tie in the second game with a run in the ninth to complete the sweep with a 7-6 win. Navarra dropped to 10-12.
In the final matchup of the weekend, Viladecans (7-15) claimed a pair of wins over Pamplona, 4-2 and 15-0. Pamplona record fell to 6-18 on the year.
