DOOR Neptunus used an eight-run fifth inning to break open a tight game and cruised to a 14-3 win over the Konica Minolta Pioniers on Saturday in Dutch Major League action from the Netherlands.

Neptunus, which ended a two-game skid, roughed up five Konica Minolta pitchers in a 14-hit assault that climaxed with the fifth-inning outburst that saw 12 batters take their cuts.

Speedy leadoff man Eugene Kingsale went 3-for-5 with a two-run triple and finished the game with three RBIs. Raily Legito, Derick Francisca, Lennart Koster and Andy Leer each stroked two hits apiece for Neptunus which improved to 20-8 on the season.

Diegomar Markwell tossed six not-so-pretty innings allowing three runs on 10 hits to claim an ugly win. Berry van Driel pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to end the festivities. Konica Minolta starter Daan de Jong was chased after 2.2 innings and was charged with the loss.

MEDIAMONKS RCH BLANKS ADO

Romanian starter Mihai Burlea tossed a complete-game two hitter as the MediaMonks dealt ADO its 11th straight loss with a 7-0 victory on Saturday in Heemstede.

Petr Baroch smacked a solo shot in the first - his second long ball in three days - as the MediaMonks sprinted out to an early 3-0 lead. The loss officially eliminated ADO from playoff contention.

ADO’s Quensley Bazoer broke up the no-hit bid in the sixth and Michel Korzeniewski added a hit in the ninth for the only hits off Burlea who also struck out 14. Alex Smith suffered the setback after surrendering five runs in just a little over three innings of work.

SPARTA/FEYENOORD WINS AGAIN

Sparta/Feyenoord extended their winning streak to six games with a 5-3 win over Corendon Kinheim on Saturday in Haarlem as Rob Cordemans outgunned David Bergman.

Sparta/Feyenoord took an 1-0 lead in the second when rookie Leon de Winter, subbing for Rodney Michel, cracked a homerun. But Kinheim scored three unanswered runs to grab a 3-1 lead heading into the sixth.

With a 3-1 lead, Bergman walked two batters in the sixth and had recorded two outs when an error loaded the bases. Kinheim reliever Duko Jansen took the ball and walked in a run before giving up a two-run single to Ramphis Trinidad to give Sparta/Feyenoord a 4-3 lead. Percy Isenia added an insurance run in the ninth with a double to end the scoring.

Cordemans picked up the win while closer Arístides Almenar registered the save for Sparta/Feyenoord.

AMSTERDAM HOLDS BACK HCAW

Bas de Jong uncorked his second grand slam home run of the season and L&D Amsterdam survived a late rally by Mr. Cocker HCAW to escape with an 8-6 win at home on Saturday.

Amsterdam erupted for five first-inning runs thanks to de Jong’s big blow and added two more runs in the fourth when Wesley Connor smacked a two-run drive for a 7-0 lead.

HCAW got back into the game after Amsterdam starter Kenny Berkenbosch departed scoring six late runs off relievers Raban Schalm, Kevin Miner and Pim Walsma. But Mr. Cocker’s rally fell short and Walsma pitched out of a jam in the ninth to pick up the save.
