Lions 12, Elephants 4
The President Lions routed the Brother Elephants 12-4 Friday night in Tainan for their third straight win. Chang Chih-chiang threw seven strong innings and Kao Guo-ching was 5-for-5 with the lumber including four RBI’s.
The Lions pounced on Elephants starter Keith Ramsey in the opening frame scoring three runs thanks to an RBI single by Kao and a two-run double from Chen Lien-hong.
The Elephants got back into the game in the third when Chu Hong-yi tripled home a run and then scored on a wild pitch to make the score 3-2. But the Lions responded in a big way in the bottom of the inning with back-to-back homers by Kao and Dominican slugger Tilson Brito.
The Lions scored nine unanswered runs over the next four innings to turn the contest into a rout. The Elephants added two meaningless runs in the ninth before closer Yen Chuen-hao registered the final three outs to seal the victory.
Chang (2-2) limited the Elephants to just two runs on three hits to get the win while Ramsey suffered the loss in his CPBL debut lasting only three innings and getting hammered for seven hits including two home runs.
T-Rex 5, Bears 3
Dmedia T-Rex overcame a pair of home runs by Cheng Chin-fong to grab a hard-fought 5-3 win over the slumping La New Bears Friday night at the Kaohsiung County Baseball Stadium.
Cheng belted a two-run blast in the bottom of the first inning off T-Rex starter Yen Chih-chung to give the Bears an early 2-0 advantage. But RBI hits by Deng Shih-yang and Wu Jia-hui in the third put T-Rex back on top 3-2.
Trailing 4-2 in the sixth, Cheng connected for his second homer of the game off reliever Pan Chung-hsiao to inch the Bears closer. The former Major Leaguer also became the fastest man to reach the 50-homer mark.
But that was as close as the Bears would get as T-Rex added an insurance run in the eight to stop their four-game losing streak and deal La New their third straight defeat.
