EL LLANO WINS TWO OVER NAVARRA
El Llano claimed sole possession of the top spot in the Spanish League with a pair of victories over Navarra this past weekend at Gijon.
Elvis Polanco was solid on the hill for El Llano in the first game tossing 8.1 scoreless innings while giving up only two hits in a 6-0 win. Reliever Fidel Torres registered the final two outs to complete the shutout.
El Llano chased Navarra starter German Arroyo after only three innings scoring four runs on six hits. Veteran hurler Juan Lopez took over in the fourth inning and held El Llano to only two runs the remaining five innings.
In the second contest, Miguel Rizo struck out 12 while giving up two runs on a pair of hits to win his third straight start as El Llano rolled to an easy 10-2 win to stay atop the Spanish League standings with a 7-1 record.
El Llano rocked Navarra starter Diego Perez for seven hits and six runs in just 1.2 innings. Alberto Espanol was solid out of the bullpen for Navarra preventing an even worse outcome giving up only a single run in 5.1 innings of work.
MARLINS AND SANT BOI BATTLE TO A DRAW
The much-anticipated showdown between the Marlins and Sant Boi did not disappoint fans as the two title contenders split their weekend doubleheader.
Marlins ace Leslie Nacar led his team to a 5-2 win in the opening game allowing two run on four hits in six innings of work. Renny Duarte recorded the final nine outs to preserve the win for the defending Spanish League champions.
Albert Vargas suffered his first loss of the year and Marc Carrillo continued to shine at the plate hitting a two-run homer in a losing effort.
Sant Boi came out smoking in the weekend finale toasting the Marlins 10-0 behind an impressive outing from Jose Cruz who threw a complete game shutout allowing just one hit in a contest that was stopped early due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Marlins starter Ivan Granados struggled mightily issuing six free passes and giving up six runs and five hits to suffer the loss. Reliever Audie Nunez did not fare much better allowing four runs on six hits in just 1.1 innings.
Milko Jaramillo was 2-for-5 and scored twice with two RBI’s and Marc Carrillo had three hits including a double to pace Sant Boi’s offensive attack and salvage a split of the doubleheader.
In other Spanish League action, Viladecans and Pamplona split their weekend series while FC Barcelona continued their winning ways with a pair of wins over the Astros last weekend.
