Draci 4, – Technika 0

Draci starter Martin Schneider and two relievers combined for a five-hit shutout as the defending champions opened their title defense with a 5-0 win over Technika Brno in the Czech League season opener last Friday.

Schneider (1-0) tossed five strong innings allowing only three hits while fanning three and surrendering two free passes. Petr Minarik limited Technika to just a lone hit in three innings on the hill and Radek Prochazka struck out two in registering the final three outs to preserve the shutout victory.

Draci was led at the plate by Karel Hrusovsky, who went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and RBI’s, and Jan Toman who scored two runs.

Krc 6, 6 – Titans 1, 4

The Eagles got two excellent outings from their starting pitchers, Matej Husek and Jakub Jonak, to grab two victories over the Tempo Titans in the season opener for both teams.

Husek (1-0) blanked the Titans for six frames while striking out five and giving up three hits as Krc won the opener 6-1. Jonas Vybora recorded the final nine outs to preserve the win.

Jonak (1-0) fanned eight while throwing 6.2 scoreless innings as the Eagles survived a late rally by the Titans to claim a 6-4 win. Reliever Jan Drabek was tagged for five hits and four runs.

The Eagles Barrios Basilio swung the bat well going 5-for-7 (.714) with two doubles in the season opening twinbill.

MZLU Express 11, 7 – Black Hill 9, 1

The Express opened up the new season with a pair of victories over Black Hill Blansko in the Czech League.

Ace pitcher Marian Gajdos (1-0) won the season opener allowing four hits and three unearned runs as MZLU survived a late-inning scare to claim a 11-9 win. Black Hill roughed up reliever Vojtech Jelinek, who walked six, for six runs over four innings.

Jan Tomek (1-0) struggled with his control issuing six free passes but stifled Black Hill’s offense allowing only one hit in five innings on the mound as MZLU completed the sweep with a 7-1 win. Pavel Jozek pitched four shutout innings in relief giving up just one hit.

Tomas Janicek was 3-for-6 with a double, Marian Madej went 3-for-8 with a double, three runs, and two RBI’s, and Michal Ondracek collected three hits including a pair of doubles for MZLU. Zdenek Kocman was 4-for-8 with four RBI’s for Black Hill.

Ostrava 8, 2 – Skokani 7, 3

The Arrows and Skokani split a pair of games to open the 2008 season.
