Jonder Martinez Blanks Guantanamo

Jonder Martínez (9-0) did not allow runs and La Habana reached its victory number 40 of the 47 National Series after a 4-0 win over Guantánamo at Nelson Fernández Stadium on Tuesday night. Other winner teams were Matanzas, Granma, Holguín, Camagüey, Las Tunas and Villa Clara. Santiago de Cuba and Industriales were tied 8-8 after 11 innings when the game was postponed.

Jonder reduced his ERA at 0.96, leader, after a complete shutout-game allowing only five hits while struck out seven and walked two to improve his record to 9-0. Leyán Lores (3-5) was the loser after eight innings of work with four runs allowed. Ernesto Molinet of La Habana was 1-for-4 in the game, with one run scored, a homer and one run batted in. La Habana continues leading Group B of the 47th National Series with record of 40-15.

Matanzas defeated Ciego 11-3 on Tuesday night at José R. Cepero Stadium in Ciego de Avila. Yoannis Negrín (7-4) worked well one more time during 7 2/3 innings allowing seven hits, three runs and striking out five with three walks to earn his seven victory of the season. Raisel Poll (1-1) was the loser. At bat Matanzas First Baseman, Yoandy Garlobo, was 2-for-3 in the game with one run, a homer, and three runs batted in. Avileños Issac Martínez and Lisdey Díaz connected homers in the game. After this defeat Ciego de Avila descended one step in the Standings of Group C of the 47th National Series, now Ciego presents record of 30-25 and is third behind Las Tunas and Villa Clara.

Holguín continued its strong performance and beat Cienfuegos 5-2 on Tuesday night at 5 de Septiembre Stadium in Cienfuegos. Rolando Mella (3-1) threw six complete innings with six hits allowed, one run and four struck outs to get his third victory of the season. Holguín’s closer, Dimitri Camareno (5), pitched the last inning with one struck out to get his fifth saved game of the season. Yoisnel Hernández (3-4) was the loser. Oscar del Rosario (Hol) went 2 for 5 in the game, two runs scored, a homer, and three runs batted in. Juan Miguel Soriano of Cienfuegos hit a homer in the game.

Camagüey with southpaw Elier Sánchez pitching five complete innings defeated Pinar del Río 9-5 at Capitán San Luis Stadium in the western province of Cuba. Sánchez reached his third victory of the season allowing six hits and four runs, while struck out five and walked four. Vladimir Baños (4-3) was the loser. Camagüey’s catcher, Yenier Bello, celebrated his birthday with two hits, both homers, two runs scored, and five runs batted in to lead his team during the game.
