La Habana Rocks Matanzas

On Friday night La Habana continued its strong perfomance and reached its 39th victory of the season to become the most dominant team in the 47 National Series. Yosvany Peraza of Pinar del Río connected his 17th homer of the season and now is the new home run king in the tournament. In other games Metropolitanos, La Isla, Ciego de Avila, Holguín, Villa Clara and Granma were the winners.

La Habana defeated Matanzas 8-1 Friday night at Victoria de Girón Stadium, with otherLa Habana southpaw hurler Yulieski Gonzalez excellent work of southpaw Yulieski González who arrived at his 9th victory of the season and helped La Habana to become the team with most victories in the 47 National Series. González threw a great game pitching eight complete innings allowing eight hits, one earned run and striking out six with three walks. Yulieski presents record of 9-0 to tie with Yoelkis Cruz of Las Tunas as leaders. Habana’s center field, Juan C. Linares, went 1 for 5 in the game with one run scored, double and three runs batted in. Yussef Pagés (2-5) was the loser.

Alfredo Despaigne connected two homers to help Granma defeat Camagüey 10-7 Friday night at Cándido González Stadium in Camagüey. Despaigne went 4 for 5 in the game and had two runs scored, a double and three runs batted in. Despaigne arrived at 15 homers in the season to tie with his team member, Yohennis Céspedes. Niorvis Piña reached his first victory of the 47 National Series, pitching 3.1 innings of relief with three hits allowed, three earned runs and three struck outs. Veteran’s Camagüey starter, Luis Campillo, was the loser. In the game Ramón Tamayo of Granma also connected two homers. Luis A. Ferrales (Grm), Marcos Naranjo (Grm) and Leslie Anderson (Cmg) each hit homers in the game.

Pinar del Río defeated Sancti Spíritus 12-1 in eight innings at José A. Huelga Stadium in Sancti Spíritus. In the game Yosvany Peraza became the new king of home runs in the 47 National Series after hit his number 17 of the season, one more than Alexei Bell of Santiago de Cuba. Pinar’ starter Yosvany Torres (5-1) pitched seven innings to earn the win. He allowed only one run, five hits, one walk, striking out two. Ismel Jiménez (7-3) was the loser. Donald Duarte was 3-for-5 for Pinar with one run scored, two doubles, and three runs batted in. Pinar now presents record of 27-25 in Group A of the 47 National Series.

Ciego de Avila defeated Santiago de Cuba 9-1 on Friday night at Guillermón Moncada Stadium in Santiago. Yander Guevara picked up the win to improve his record to 3-3 this season, pitching a complete game and allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out four. Yaumier Sánchez (5-1) was the loser. Yorbis Borroto went 1 for 3 for Ciego in the game, one run scored, a homer and four runs batted in. Abdel Civil (Cav), Issac Martínez (Cav) and Héctor Olivera (Scu) each hit homers in the game.
