Taiwan disposed of Panama with ease on Tuesday claiming a 10-0 win and setting the stage for a showdown with the Americans on Wednesday for the top seed in Group A.
Taiwanese starter Chien-Fu Yang fanned four while giving up three hits in six scoreless innings on the mound. Reliever Fu-Te Ni struck out three while tallying six outs and teammate Po-Hsuan Keng pitched the final frame to preserve the shutout.
Chen-Min Peng went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI’s while hometown hero Chin-Feng Chen smacked two hits as Taiwan went through seven Panama pitchers en route to their fifth win of the tournament.
Panama, which still can advance to the next round with a win over South Africa on Wednesday, were led offensively by Audes Flores who tallied two of Panama’s six hits.
