The Dutch got a big-time outing from DOOR Neptunus ace pitcher Leon Boyd on Tuesday to grab a crucial 5-1 win over Korea in Group B action.
Boyd went six strong innings for the Dutch silencing the Koreans to the tune of one run on six hits while whiffing five. Hard-throwing Loek van Mil worked the final three innings allowing only two hits.
Second baseman Roel Koolen was 3-for-5 and three other Dutch players (Railey Legito, Sharnol Adriana, Vince Rooi) added two hits apiece as the Netherlands captured a must-win over a young but talented Korean team.
Korean starter Seung-Ho Lee pitched well in defeat giving up three runs on four hits while striking out 11. Korea (3-3) will meet Germany on Wednesday in a must-win game while the Dutch (4-2) will battle Cuba in a key Group B encounter.
