Mexico continued their hard-hitting ways feasting on Spanish pitchers in a 19-1 romp over Spain on Tuesday in Group A action.
Mexican slugger Baltazar Lopez tallied seven RBI’s with two doubles and a home run to lead a 19-hit barrage. Shortstop Alejandro Ahumada (4-for-5) and teammate Hector Garanzuay (3-for-5) both drove home four RBI’s for Mexico.
Spanish starter Yoel Hernandez was roughed up for five runs and six innings in just one inning of work as Mexico pounded five opposing pitchers in the six-inning affair.
Juan Delgadillo picked up the win for Mexico scattering one run on three hits over five innings. Reliever David Dominguez fanned all three batters he faced and Miguel Duarte registered the final three outs to end the beating.
Both Dewis Navarro and Marc Carrillo continue swinging the bat well for Spain accounting for two of Spain’s four hits in the contest. Jose Riera and Juan Garcia had the remaining two hits.
Spain will next play Japan in their World Cup finale on Wednesday while Mexico will be looking for their fourth straight win on the same day against Italy.
