Parma Sweep Rimini

Cariparma Parma secured the Italian Baseball League regular season title with three wins over Telemarket Rimini this past weekend. Rimini, 2006 Italian Champions, ended the season at a disappointing 21-21.

Roque ROMAN and Junior OBERTO combined on a four-hit shutout to lead Parma past Rimini 6-0 in the opening game. ROMAN surrendered only three hits over six innings to improve to 0-0 while OBERTO pitched three almost spotless innings of relief allowing just one hit. Leonardo ZILERI was 3-for-5 and scored two runs and Paul MACALUSO went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI’s for Parma.

In the second game of the weekend series, Mattia SALSI pitched 3.1 scoreless innings of relief and leadoff hitter Adolfo GOMEZ scored two runs and had three hits as Parma nipped Rimini 7-6. Marcello SACCARDI and Stefano DE SIMONI both had two RBI’s each for Parma while Luigi CARROZA homered for Rimini.

Parma needed 15 innings to complete the sweep over Rimini as DE SIMONI went 5-for-7 and Laidel CHAPELLI homered in a 5-2 marathon win. CARROZA was 4-for-7 with a homer for Rimini.

Nettuno Sweeps Avigliana

Danessi Nettuno claimed the final playoff berth in the Italian Baseball League with a sweep over Avigliana last weekend. Avigliana ends the season in the cellar with an 8-34 mark.

Giovanni CARRARA (0-0) scattered one run on two hits over five innings and four players scored two runs apiece as Nettuno coasted to an easy 11-1 win in the opener. Frailyn FLORIAN pitched four scoreless innings of relief limiting Avigliana to just one hit.

Carlos PEZZULLO and Carlos RICHETTI combined on a four-hit shutout in the second game to lead Nettuno to a 5-0 victory. PEZZULLO (0-0) stymied Avigliana for six innings giving up only one hit and fanning six while RICHETTI tossed three scoreless innings allowing just three hits. Alejandro CAMILO was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI’s.

Leonardo MAZZANTI had three hits and CAMILO connected for a three-run shot as Nettuno squeaked past Avigliana 7-6 to complete the sweep. William VASQUEZ was 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI’s for Avigliana.
